The Parish of St. Andrews is one of the oldest Roman Catholic parishes in the Maritimes, In 1825, the first Roman Catholic Church was built on the corner across from the home. The rectory was built shortly thereafter and the first parish priest, Rev. John Cummins, of Ireland, resided there from 1825 to 1836. An extension was built in later years and an updated chic kitchen with built ins, granite counters and island breakfast bar was added with French doors leading to the back garden and pool area. A full bathroom with laundry and a sauna is adjacent to the kitchen as well as a large prep pantry. A covered veranda overlooking the inground pool connects the main house with the 2 storey cedar clad barn. The original structure features some of the finest in architecture and decor in its time, including Gothic arched windows in cross-gables, Italianate muraled ceiling, crystal chandeliers, wide mouldings, hardwood flooring, curved staircase, and wood burning fireplace. Ascending the staircase there are 2 large bedrooms at the front of the house featuring wood panel raised ceilings and wood beams, and a full bathroom.
